A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a special operation busted a fake stamp-making factory in the capital’s Mirpur area and recovered a huge number of fake stamps worth Tk60 crore.
However, CID could not arrest anyone in this regard.
Abdul Latif, sub-inspector of CID, told the Dhaka Tribune that the fake stamp-making factory was located in the ground floor of Lalkuti Bhaban in Darussalam police station area.
During the five-hour long drive that began at 10:30am yesterday, a huge stash of revenue, judicial and non-judicial stamps worth Tk60.66 crore was recovered, he said.
Latif further said they had learnt about the fake factory from Bulbul, who was arrested in another drive earlier on June 19. At that time CID also seized fake stamps worth Tk55.54 crore.
“Bulbul’s brother Shourov and father Delowar Hossain used to run the fake stamp factory but before we conducted the drive, they went into hiding,” said the CID official adding that efforts were on to arrest them.
