Pallabi police handed over the case of May 13 killings of a woman and her uncle-in-law in an apartment in the capital’s Pallabi area to the Detective Branch (DB) on Saturday.
Pallabi police station Officer-in-Charge Dadon Bhuiyan said very little progress could be made in the case as no important clue came from the only arrested Shahin.
On May 13, Chairman of Independent Power Limited Sweety Khatun, who was the wife of Desco Engineer Jahidul Islam, was killed along with her uncle-in-law Aminul Islam, in the flat.
Jahid filed a case accusing Shahin, business partner of Sweety, with Pallabi police station the following day.
He claimed that a few days before the incident, an altercation took place between Sweety and Shahin over partnership in the company.
DB Inspector Md Mahfuzur Rahman said police could not find any helpful information from Shahin. The case still lied in dark.
In May, after the incident, Jahidul mentioned that he had received threats from extortionists over phone in late March this year and had filed a general diary with the Pallabi police station in this connection. However, the former OC of the station Syed Ziauzzaman said the calls were not related to the case as they were made from Madaripur.
He also said: “Jahidul’s reaction to the murders triggers doubts. When he came to file the case he did not even mention that his wife and relative were murdered. Rather he said ‘two people’ have been murdered and seemed lucid.”
Being a government official Jahid owns an apartment, land properties and a business firm. This indicated that he had made money illegally, said the former OC.
