5 city shops fined for making food unhygienically

A mobile court has fined five fast food shops a total of Tk3.4 lakh in the capital for preparing food in unhygienic conditions as well as keeping rotten items.

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) along with the district administration and police conducted the drive yesterday afternoon,

Executive Magistrate Abdur Kadir Miah conducted the drive in Baily Road and fined Fancy Fast Food Shop KFC, Pizzahut and Bummers Cafe Tk1 lakh each while Hotel Nababi Bhoj and Hotel Bar-b-Q were Tk20,000 each.

On the other hand, another mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Aslam Uddin run another drive in Chawkbazar around 3pm, which included some BSTI officials as well.

BSTI Field Observer Suraya Parvin told the Dhaka Tribune that the BSTI has remained active to maintain food standard during the Ramadan.

“We have destroyed some rotten chickens in Chawkbazar today and warned of the businessmen there.” 

On Thursday, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu announced of running drives to ensure standard food during the Ramadan.
