14 shot by police in city

Update : 18 Jun 2015, 07:29 PM

At least 14 students of Government Unani-Ayurved Residential College at Mirpur 14 in the capital were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Thursday night with bullet injuries.

Police first charged batons on them and later fired rubber bullets around 9:30pm to free the road blocked by the students, Kafrul police Sub-Inspector Idris Ali told the Dhaka Tribune. Several constables also received minor injuries during their efforts to quell the agitators.

They were protesting against the torture of a student, Tozammel Hossain, by some locals earlier in the evening when he went outside the dormitory to have tea.

DMCH Resident Surgeon Reaz Morshed said the 14 students aged between 18 and 22 had bullet injuries.

Police did not detain anyone in this connection. No case was filed until filing of the report at 1:30am.
