Update : 15 Jun 2015, 01:14 PM

Police have seized Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s Land Cruiser Prado, a black SUV car over the death of two people in a shooting incident at Moghbazar area in the Capital.

Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of DB police, told journalists in a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre on Monday.

The ruling lawmaker’s son Bakhtiyar Alam Rony is now in prison over the killings early on April 14.

According to police, Rony was drunk when he opened fire on his victims on a busy thoroughfare.

Rony’s car driver Imran Fakir, also arrested in the case, gave a confessional statement before the court saying Bakhtiar was drunk when the shooting took place.

On the night of April 13, the driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw of the daily Janakantha and a rickshaw-puller were shot by an unidentified shooter in the Dilu Road area of Moghbazar.

Rickshaw-puller Abdul Halim died on the spot. Auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Sikder died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A case filed with Ramna police station by Halim’s mother, Monawara Begum, was later shifted to the Detective Branch.

Investigators said around the time of the shooting there was a traffic jam in the area.

Annoyed by the gridlock, Rony stepped out of his car and fired four to five bullets, hitting two people. The car then drove off, Investigation Officer Dipak said quoting Imran’s confessional statement to a Dhaka Court on Saturday.

Detective Branch arrested Rony and the vehicle’s driver Imran Fakir on May 31 for their suspected involvement in the killings.
