Student expelled for assaulting teacher

A student, who sat for Degree exams this year, was expelled from the exam hall in Beani Bazar Degree College in the district yesterday for assaulting a teacher.

Sources said Mahmud Hossain, a BBA examinee was trying to copy in the exam hall where Professor Moniruzzaman of Islamic History department was doing his duty as exams invigilator.

Moniruzzaman alerted Mahmud not to take unfair way in the exam. But he did follow the advice of the teacher.

At one stage, the teacher went to him and took way the exam script. The student requested him to return back the script but the teacher did not allow him.

Later, he attacked the teacher leaving him injured when he came out of the hall.

He was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College in critical condition. The college authority at a meeting expelled the boy from the exams.

Principal Darkesh Chandra of the college expressed that the incident was shameful for the students and teachers.

The higher authorities were informed the incident, he said.

A case was filed in this connection, said Zubair Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Beani Bazar police station.
