At least three people including a woman were killed in separate incidents in different areas of the capital yesterday.
Miscreants shot dead Md Jahidul Islam, 40, at his shop Medicare Medicine Corner at Block C of Pallabi around midnight. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead. Pallabi OC police Dadon Bhuiyan could not confirm the motive for the murder.
Md Abdul Malek, 50, a handicapped begger, was killed around noon when a huge pile of bricks fell on his tin-shed room at the slum near Shwashan Ghat in Darussalam area. His youngest son Jamal Hossain was injured in the incident.
Locals said the brick stock was owned by one Khandaker of the same area.
In another incident of suspected robbery, a woman named Shapla Akhter was killed at her house in Madhya Badda around 8:30pm. Shapla’s husband Wahiduzzaman, their son and daughter were outside when the murder took place.
After returning home, they found her in a toilet with the hands tied and cloths stacked inside the mouth. The miscreants also looted valuables from the house.
Police sent her to Apollo Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead.
Badda OC Abdul Jalil said the alleged robbers might have entered the house posing as sanitary workers. He said relatives of the deceased might have ben involved.
