Family members of a 14-year-old girl alleged she was raped after being abducted on Sunday. A case was also filed with Mugda police station on Monday night.
The victim, who hails from the Sonargaon area of Narayanganj, was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) yesterday morning. However, the victim’s father refused to speak about the incident.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Mugda police station Faruk Hossain disclosed that the victim’s family filed the case on Monday night. The sister of the accused, Billal, was arrested as Billal and his parents fled from their home at Mugda.
The OC claimed they had received a marriage certificate showing Billal and the victim were married a month ago. However, he did not explain how a marriage certificate of a 14-year girl could have been prepared.
He said the two were close relatives.
When contacted, the victim’s older brother said Billal was a distant relative, and only a year ago they came to know that Billal's mother is a distantly-related sister of their father. As Billal needed a job, he began working at their shop.
A month ago, Billal’s mother brought the family a marriage proposal for the victim with Billal. The family became furious and drove Billal away from their shop.
Returning to Dhaka, Billal called the victim’s brother and threatened him by saying he would abduct and molest the girl.
The victim’s family claimed he somehow abducted the girl on June 7 afternoon, and took her to a relative’s home at Nabiganj in the Narayanganj Bandor area.
That evening, the family went to Billal’s house with Mugda police, where his parents said they will find the girl and hand her to them.
Billal, on Monday morning, called the victim’s older brother and advised him to take his sister away. Later they learnt from the girl that Billal had raped her that night.
They tried to catch him, but he had already fled from the area. After filing the case, they came to know that his parents had also fled.
When asked about the marriage certificate, the victim’s brother claimed Billal had forced the girl to sign the document.
