Update : 09 Jun 2015, 07:38 PM

The arrested top leader of newly-identified militant outfit Shahid Hamza Brigade was placed on a seven-day remand after being nabbed by Rapid Action Battalion 7 from Chittagong city early yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, RAB nabbed Khaled Hasan alias Rakib, 22, commander of one of SHB’s military wings, White Group, from Chittagong Railway Station at around 7am.

However, no contraband was found on him, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sohel Mahmud, assistant director of RAB 7.

Later, RAB 7 produced him before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate, Md Amirul Islam, of Banshkhali Upazila Court in Chittagong seeking a 10-day remand in a case lodged with Banshkhali Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act on February 22, he said.

With Rakib’s arrest, RAB detained 27 members of the outfit, including its second-in-command, from February 19 till yesterday, said sources. RAB 7 claimed they nabbed most of the members of the outfit, but the ring leader and financiers are still at large. On April 13, RAB 7 traced the new militant group in the port city which had started operations in November 2013.
