The arrested top leader of newly traced militant outfit Shahid Hamza Brigade (SHB) has been placed on seven-day remand in a case lodged with Banshkhali police station.
A Banshkhali Upazila court in Chittagong granted the bail after he was produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Amirul Islam by the RAB 7 men, seeking 10-day remand, showing him arrested in a case lodged with Banshkhali police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act on February 22.
Earlier in the day, acting on a tip-off, the elite force nabbed Khaled Hasan alias Rakib, 22, commander of one of SHB’s military wings, White Group, from Chittagong Railway Station at around 7am on Tuesday.
However, no contraband object was found on him, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Sohel Mahmud, assistant director of RAB 7.
Later, RAB 7 produced him before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Amirul Islam of Banshkhali Upazila Court in Chittagong and the court granted seven-day remand, said ASP Sohel, in-charge of RAB 7 media wing.
With Rakib’s arrest, the elite force, from February 19 till Tuesday, detained 27 members of the outfit including its second-in-command, said the sources.
RAB 7, however, claimed they nabbed most of the members of the outfit, but the ring leader and financers still could not be nabbed.
On this April 13, RAB 7 traced the new militant group in the port city while the outfit started operations in November, 2013 by holding a meeting at a hotel near Foy’s Lake of the city in a bid to support the tormented Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.
The SHB has three separate military wings – Blue, Green and White. Each of its wings comprises seven members – all trained as a “one man army,” he said.
It had planned to launch an armed revolution in greater Chittagong including the Chittagong Hill Tracts to protest against the oppression of Muslims across the world.
The elite force arrested SHB’s Second-in-Command Nasir Hossen alias Sajol, 27, and member Samsuddin, 27, from the city’s AK Khan Intersection on June 4.
Earlier, on April 13, RAB arrested four members of SHB including its key arms and ammunition suppliers, conducting drives in different parts of Chittagong city with a large number of arms and ammunition.
Before that, 20 members of the outfit were arrested from Hathazari’s Alipur Madrasa, Lotmoni Hill of Banshkhali, and Halishahar Residential Area, with a large amount of arms, ammunition, explosives, explosive producing materials and military training tools in February 2015.
