The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate on Saturday night seized 2,140kg liquid cocaine at Chittagong port which was imported in the name of sunflower oil.

The cocaine worth Tk100 crore was imported in a container, said Md Malekin, assistant director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.

He said the container would be examined today morning in the presence of police, the Department of Narcotics Control and other officials.

“Acting on a tip-off, we seized the container imported by Khan Jahan Ali Limited. It is addressed to Nabi Market in Chittagong’s Khatunganj,” said Malekin.

“We were tipped off that 107 drums filled with liquid cocaine was inside the container. The consignment was mentioned as sunflower oil in the import documents.”

A team of CMP’s Detective Branch on Saturday afternoon detained Nur Mohammad, owner of importer Khan Jahan Ali Limited.

Nur said during interrogation that Sohel, one of the employees of the company, imported the consignment and used the company’s official pad and address to place the order.

Police then arrested Sohel who said the consignment was sent by one of his expatriate relatives in England and was actually imported from Bolivia. He also disclosed to police the location of the container in the port’s yard.

Customs Intelligence Additional Director General Hossain Ahmed then sealed the container at night, said CMP’s Detective Branch ADC Tanvir Araft.
