Police on Thursday sent two employees of a government school in Naogaon to court after they were detained on charges of illegally setting up shops on the institution’s land.

Lafir Uddin Molla, a peon of Raninagar No 1 Model Government Primary School, and Abu Bakar Mollah, a member of the school’s management committee, were held on Wednesday.

Officer-in-Charge of Raninagar police station Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury said the upazila nirbahi officer, upazila primary education officer and upazila secondary education officer saw in person the two men’s involvement in construction and held them before handing them over to police.

He said the shops were being set up beside an abandoned building of the school and had already been rented secretly.

“President of the school’s management committee Safat Hossain, with the connivance of some local influentials, allowed the shops to be set up,” said OC Masud.

On Wednesday night, the school’s head teacher, Amal Krishna Sarker, filed a case against Lafir, Bakar and Safat, and charged them with grabbing government lands.

OC Masud said Safat could not be detained as he had gone into hiding.

The head teacher said construction of the shops had been going on for long but he was unaware of it.
