Family alleges SI killed trader for money

Update : 04 Jun 2015, 08:41 PM

Family members of a businessman yesterday claimed that a sub-inspector of Gulshan police had killed the trader.

Deceased Nur-e-Alam Azad Sourov, a cosmetics trader at Pink City Shopping Mall, used to live with his family in Mohammadpur’s Iqbal Road area.

His brother Masum said Gulshan police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Mahbubur Rahman had invested Tk13 lakh in Sourov’s business three months ago.

As Mahbub wanted to take his money back, Sourvov returned Tk2 lakh two months ago, and yesterday he was supposed to give Mahbub Tk3-5 lakh, Masum claimed.

“Around noon, Sourov sent an SMS to my younger brother mentioning that he was just forced into a silver-coloured Noah microbus having the number plate Dhaka Metro Ga 14-9107,” Masum told the Dhaka Tribune.

Around 7pm, an unidentified caller asked Sourov’s family to search for him at hospitals. Masum and the family went to Dhaka Medical College morgue at 8:30pm and identified the body. Hospital sources said someone named Panna had admitted Sourov to the hospital in an unconscious condition around 4:30pm. He died around 7:30pm. Doctors said Sourov was poisoned to death.

When contacted, Gulshan OC Sirajul Islam denied knowledge of the matter.

SI Mahbubur could not be reached as his mobile phone was found switched off.
