Three days have elapsed but law enforcers are yet to arrest anyone involved in the killing of lawyer’s wife inside his house in Nikunja area of the capital.
Police recovered the body of Lima Akther Mukul, 39, wife of Bangladesh-born US expatriate lawyer Rakibul Islam, on Tuesday night from a house of Nikunja 1.
Analysing the primary autopsy report conducted by Dhaka Medical College Hospital, police said the deceased bore injury marks.
In the inquest report, it was also mentioned that wounds of four sharp weapons were found on her body. The abdomen and back of the victim also had injury marks.
Investigators said lawyer Rakibul handed over his personal driver Nure Alam Siddique to police a couple of months back on charge of stealing his car.
As Alam had a good relation with caretaker Lelin investigators are also suspecting Alam’s involvement in the murder. Lelin along with some of his accomplices might have killed Lima to take revenge on his master.
Lelin, after the murder, went into hiding growing suspicion in the minds of the investigators about his involvement.
Besides, Rakibul was not on good terms with her first wife who is also a US national. After the conjugal row, Rakibul came back to Bangladesh one and a half years back and built a house in Nikunja area.
Rakib wanted to come back to Bangladesh but his wife did not agree that led to his second marriage. Later, Rakib married Lima in January this year. Rakib said he had been threatened with death over phone especially after his second marriage over the last couple of months.
Even, he received a death threat on the day Lima was killed. He said he told her wife to remain alert but before he came back home from work she was murdered.
About arresting his driver, Rakib said Alam went out with his car and stopped communicating with him. He then filed a case with Khilkhet police station and police arrested Alam and recovered the car.
Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khilkhet police station, said: “We are investigating the case. We are now trying to trace caretaker Lelin.”
