A mobile court in the district yesterday sentenced a youth to 2-year imprisonment on the charge of hurting religious sentiments.
The convict was identified as Samar Ghosh alias Felu Ghosh,22, son of late Joydev Ghosh in Char Gadhatali area under Gournadi municipal town.
Sajjad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gournadi police station, said the mobile court led by Masud Hasan Patowary, upazila nirbahi officer and administrative magistrate handed down the verdict.
Sources said following an allegation from local people, police recovered one copy of Holy Quran and four copies of Holy Geeta placed on the funeral pyre (chita) at the cremation ground in the house of one Narayan covered with national flag of Bangladesh.
The police arrested Felu in this connection and produced him before the court.
Examining the records, the court handed down the verdict.
