The detainees are Mohammad Selim, 25, of Bagerhat, Mohammad Ali, 19, of Jhalakati and Helal Uddin Rana of Pirojpur.

EPZ police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said: “Acting on a tip-off, we raided the area and detained the human traffickers on Wednesday morning. They are members of a five-member human trafficking gang.”

He said two human trafficking victims – Rakib Hossain and Mohammad Hasssan – were also rescued in the drive.

The OC further said: “They were planning to traffic 12 people to Bengaluru in India with the promise of giving them jobs with a salary of Tk25,000. Only two people who were supposed to be sent to India had met the traffickers. The others are yet to come.”

He said: “The detainees take the victims to India and take a ransom of Tk1 to Tk2 lakh.”
