A group of young men killed the daughter of a house owner in the flat before stealing valuables in the capital’s Jatrabari early yesterday.
The deceased is Sabekun Narhar Nigar, 35, daughter of retired government official SM Kamaruzzaman.
Sub-Inspector of Jatrabari police station Jasim Uddin said two youths introducing themselves as students rented a flat on the ground floor of the three-storey building on Thursday afternoon.
“Around 10:30pm on Friday, there was a knock on the door of Kamaruzzaman’s flat and five to six men, including the two tenants, entered when Nigar opened the door. The men immediately held the family members at gunpoint.
“Nigar tried to protest but they suffocated her to death. They also tied up her mother, stole valuables and fled,” he said.
Nigar’s body was recovered yesterday morning and sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Her brother-in-law, Jasim Uddin Khan, said the robbers tied her up and taped her mouth and noses.
“They also tied her neck with a necktie and I saw injury marks in her head.”
