A Jubo League activist has been hacked to death by miscreants at Tita Hajra village under Begumganj upazila in in the district.
The victim is Md Jahir Uddin, 30, son of Md Nurul Amin.
Quoting locals, Golam Faruk, OC Begumganj Model police station said a gang of masked criminals attacked Jahir on Friday night while he was sitting with his friends at a local shop.
Being chased by the miscreants, Jahir started running towards his house in order to save his life. But, he fell down on the ground and the criminals caught him and hacked mercilessly, leaving him seriously injured, said the OC.
“Locals rescued him and took to Gopalpur Union Health Complex where on duty doctors declared him dead around 9pm.”
“The assailants could not be identified as they were wearing masks and fled the spot immediately. Investigation is underway,” he added.
