A man set a woman on fire allegedly after she refused his marriage proposal at Mollarchar village under Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj.
The victim is Nurunnahar, 24, wife of Malaysia expatriate Rafiqul Islam.
Nurunnahar, who is now undergoing treatment at DMCH burn unit, said her neighbour Sumon had been proposing to her for a couple of months.
"I rejected his proposal as I am already married and I have a five-year-old daughter. Being angered, Sumon came to my house at around 11am on Thursday and set me on fire after pouring kerosene," she said.
Her mother Achhia Begum said Nurunnahar has been living with them since her husband went to Malaysia.
"She was alone at the house today as her father and I went to a neighbouring village for some work," she added.
Partha Sankar Pal, residential surgeon of DMCH burn unit, said Nurunnahar sustained 90% burns and her condition is critical.
