A newly married housewife was allegedly killed for dowry in Hasra area under Kalihathi upazial of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Akhi Akter, wife of Abdur Rashid, expatriate in the United Arab Emirates.
Sources said Akhi, daughter of Anwar Hossain had been married of with Rashid, son of Hasan Ali in the area nine months ago. After, marriage Rashid went to Arab-Emirate keeping his wife at his father’s house.
Anwar said the father-in-law of Akhi used to torture her for dowry.
“Hasan along with his family members strangulated her daughter for dowry,’ he alleged.
A case was filed with Kalihathi police station in this connection.
Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station said no body could be arrested in this connection.
