Police early yesterday arrested one person with 101 passports from the capital’s Darussalam area. The arrestee was identified as Shah Uddin, 48 of Comilla.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur zone Mohammad Jasim Uddin said they had raided a house at Bardhanbari area at around 2:30am being tipped off.
Police further said they had called the passport holders and learned that they paid Tk1 lakh to Tk1.5 lakh each for the passports.
When asked if they knew the person they gave money to, the passport holders said they had no idea since the money was given by their relatives who lived in Malaysia or Saudi Arabia.
A case was filed against Shah Uddin with Darussalam police station.
