The body of a six-year-old girl has been found in a sewer drain in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Thursday afternoon, three hours after she went missing.
The victim, Mukta Akhter, daughter of one Mostafiz, was a student of a local Madrasa.
Family members said Mukta went missing around 1pm. Later, her body surfaced on the drain around 4pm.
Being informed, the police recovered it and sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy around 4:45pm, said OC Azizul Haque of Mohammadpur police station.
He said: “We recovered the slit-throat body of the girl. Investigation is underway. Details regarding her death could be known once the autopsy is completed.”
Mukta's father alleged that his neighbour (Faruk's mother) might have killed his daughter over previous enmity.
He told the Dhaka Tribune: “The woman might have killed my daughter and dumped her body inside the sewer drain out of enmity as she threatened to cause harm to me several times.”
