Sacked AUST teacher committed many crimes

Ferdous, an assistant professor of EEE department of AUST, was arrested on May 4 for sexually harassing female students following a case filed by alumni Asadullah Al Sayem with Kalabagan police. But during investigation, the law enforcers found more evidences of his controversial acts and pressed charges bringing more three charges under the Pornography Control Act, ICT Act and the Public Examination (offences) Act 1980. The trial of Ferdous started at the court of Judge Shafiul Azam of the Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 on charges of sexual harassment, pornography and violation of public examination act. The court also sent a copy of the case documents to Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal recently for starting trial against Ferdous under the ICT Act, said special public prosecutor Akbar Ali. As per the charges sheet, Ferdous sexually harassed at least five female students of the EEE department by threatening and alluring them to give more marks in oral exams. The offence of attempted rape was also found against the accused as he forced a victim to go to his flat by threatening her to upload her indecent pictures and SMS on the internet. He was charged under the ICT Act and the Pornography Act for posting photos of victims on website. According to the case, on March 2 this, Ferdous took a first-year female student of EEE department to his flat where he sexually harassed her, snapped her indecent pictures and threatened to upload the image on the Internet if she disclosed the matter to anyone. Six female students gave judicial statements before the court against the teacher. The accused also gave confessional statement before magistrate on May 7. The AUST authorities suspended him on April 30 after several students provided evidence of harassment and sacked him on May 9.
