Khaleda’s graft cases hearing deferred till August 3

Update : 28 Jul 2017, 09:01 AM
A Dhaka court has fixed August 3 for next hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust corruption cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Judge Dr Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judges Court 5 fixed the date on Thursday, in response to time petitions filed by Khaleda’s lawyers in the cases. Khaleda’s lawyers also submitted two non-appearance petitions stating that the BNP chief could not appear before the court as she was staying aboard for her treatment. In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against six people, including Khaleda Zia and her eldest son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk2.1 crore from the funds of the Zia Orphanage Trust. In 2011, the ACC accused the BNP chief and three others of misappropriating Tk3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust fund.
