A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 27 bank accounts belonging to former Naogaon-3 MP Md Salim Uddin Tarfder and his wife, Shamima Akter Shirin.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order on Thursday following petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The accounts hold a total of Tk55.92 lakh, according to the ACC.
ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya filed the petitions on behalf of the commission.
According to the petitions, Shamima, 56, allegedly acquired and possessed assets worth Tk1.68 crore beyond her known sources of income in collusion with her husband, Salim Uddin, 57.
The ACC alleged that the couple abused their positions as public servants for personal gain and committed offences punishable under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and Section 109 of the Penal Code.
The petitions said the accused were attempting to transfer or dispose of movable assets in the bank accounts.
The ACC argued that such transfers before the disposal of the case could hamper the investigation and cause financial loss.
