A Dhaka court on Sunday sent 3 accused to jail in a case filed over trespassing, vandalism, looting and theft at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after Inspector Subrata Debnath, the investigating officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and sought a 5-day remand. The court fixed Wednesday for a hearing on the remand plea.
Sub-Inspector Tarekur Rahman of the prosecution department confirmed the information.
The accused are Md Mamun, 32, Md Aslam, 24, and Munna, 29.
According to the case statement, around 50 people formed an unlawful assembly and trespassed into the project area of New Gini Properties Ltd in West Matikata under Cantonment police station on Saturday.
They allegedly fired around 50 rounds indiscriminately and attacked people with ramdas, knives and sticks. Several people, including site engineer Md Parvez, were seriously injured.
The attackers also trespassed into Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio and vandalized and looted the premises.
The case statement said the attackers took away cash, laptops, computers, BRB cables, cameras and professional media equipment from the project area. Several vehicles were also vandalized.
The company suffered losses of around Tk 1 crore 42 lakh 80,000, while goods worth Tk 1 crore 50 lakh 44,000 were stolen, according to the case statement.
After receiving information about the incident, police from Cantonment Police Station went to the scene. The attackers allegedly fired at the police, who fired 5 shotgun rounds in self-defense to bring the situation under control.
Two accused named in the case were arrested at the scene, while another was arrested later during a police drive.
Police said locally made weapons and empty bullet casings were recovered from the arrested suspects.
Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, an official of the project, filed the case with Cantonment police station.
The case names 10 people as accused and includes another 150–200 unidentified people.
