The prosecution has filed formal charges against five people, including former Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) additional deputy commissioner Ishtiaq Ahmed, over allegations of enforced disappearance and murder.
Ishtiaq, who is currently in jail, is accused of abducting Maulana Al Amin, keeping him in detention for an extended period and later killing him, Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said at a briefing at the International Crimes Tribunal on Wednesday.
The prosecution filed the formal charges with the tribunal after the investigation agency submitted its report.
Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim alleged that the CTTC abducted religious-minded youths for criticising the government or posting against it on social media.
“They would be forcibly disappeared and detained in various Aynaghar [secret detention facilities]. When a government decision came, they would be taken to a specific location and killed in staged militant incidents,” he said.
Gazi Monawar also said that in some cases, the bodies were made to disappear, while others were sent to court in false cases.
He said the formal charges against the five accused were filed in connection with one such case.
