A Dhaka court on Monday showed online casino kingpin Selim Pradhan arrested again as a suspect in a case filed under the Explosives Act and over an attempted murder at Gulshan Police Station.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order after hearing an application filed by the investigating officer.
State prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed the matter.
Defence lawyers opposed the application during the hearing, while the prosecution argued in favour of it. After hearing both sides, the court rejected Pradhan's bail plea and ordered that he be sent to jail.
According to the case statement, on August 5, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement, protesters in the Banshtala area of Natun Bazar under Gulshan Police Station came under indiscriminate gunfire. Md Touhid Mia sustained serious bullet injuries in the incident.
Touhid later filed the case with the court, naming 88 individuals, including Selim Pradhan, along with 100 to 200 unidentified persons as accused.
