Police on Thursday sought to show former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque arrested in another case filed with Banani Police Station over attempted murder and violations of the Explosives Act in connection with the July mass uprising.
On Thursday, the case's investigating officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam of Banani Police Station submitted the application before the court.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah fixed July 6 for a hearing on the plea in the presence of the accused.
SI Moktar Hossain of the prosecution division confirmed the matter.
Khairul Haque was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on July 24 last year and has remained in prison since then. Although his lawyers have on several occasions said he would be released following bail granted by the High Court, he has remained behind bars as police continue to seek his arrest in new cases.
According to the case statement, on August 4, 2024, protesters were demonstrating in front of the Setu Bhaban in Mohakhali before heading towards Shahbagh. As they proceeded, they allegedly came under attack and were fired upon, while crude bombs were hurled at them, leaving Ujjal Mia and 25 to 30 others injured.
Following the incident, Ujjal Mia filed a case with Banani Police Station on charges of attempted murder and offences under the Explosives Act.
