The High Court on Monday directed the authorities concerned to submit a report within two months on children currently living with their incarcerated mothers in prisons across the country and their overall conditions.
The court also issued a rule asking why the government and other respondents should not be directed to ensure adequate safety, welfare and a conducive environment for the development of children residing in prisons with mothers accused or convicted of various offences.
The order and rule were issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice Khizir Ahmed Chowdhury and Justice Md Ziaul Haque following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition.
Barrister Kamrun Nahar Mahmud (Deepa) represented the petitioner during the hearing, assisted by advocates Farzana Akter and Hosne Ara Begum.
