A special prosecution team has been formed under the attorney general’s leadership for hearings in the High Court in the murder and rape case of a seven-year-old Pallabi girl, officials said on Thursday.
The team, constituted under Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, will represent the state in the proceedings of the widely discussed case. It includes Deputy Attorney General Barrister Osman Chowdhury, Deputy Attorney General Barrister Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Attorney General Jamiul Haque Faisal, and Assistant Attorney General Dewan Humayun Kabir Ripon.
Attorney General Kazal confirmed the development on Thursday.
He said he will personally take part in the High Court arguments in the case. He added that all members of the team are preparing for the hearing of the murder and rape case involving the seven-year-old Pallabi girl.
Kazal said the High Court proceedings in the case will continue without interruption and the state side will not seek any adjournment during the hearing.
He further said the Chief Justice has formed a special bench to prioritize cases of violence against women and children. Appearing before the bench headed by senior judge Bishmadev Chakraborty, he said the state would not file any adjournment petition and the hearing would proceed continuously.
He added that the case may appear in the High Court cause list on Sunday.
Earlier, on June 9, the death reference documents confirming the death sentences of convicts Sohel Rana and Swapna Akhter—sentenced to death for the rape and murder of the seven-year-old Pallabi girl—were sent to the High Court.
