Lawyers at the Supreme Court have warned of a black flag procession and further movement programmes if the decision to hold proceedings virtually for two days a week is not withdrawn.
The warning came on Wednesday at a rally held on the Supreme Court premises following a procession.
Speakers at the rally said they would announce a continuous movement program from Thursday if the decision remains in place.
Senior lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan, Barrister Mokchedul Islam, Advocate Maqsud Ullah, Advocate Anisur Rahman Biswas Raihan, Barrister Ashraful Islam and others addressed the rally.
They criticised the move to conduct proceedings virtually in both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division, calling it “a farce in the name of justice,” and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
According to a notification issued by the Supreme Court, virtual proceedings are currently being held in the Appellate and High Court divisions every Wednesday and Thursday.
The notification was signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Muhammad Habibur Rahman Siddiqui following instructions from the chief justice.
