International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam on Tuesday warned prosecutors following the leak of an audio recording in which Tk1 crore was allegedly demanded from a defendant’s family as a bribe.

Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting held at the chief prosecutor’s conference room on Tuesday morning, Aminul Islam said strict action would be taken if anyone was found involved in irregularities or corruption.

“During my tenure, if any prosecutor or anyone else is found involved in any kind of irregularity or corruption, strict action will be taken. There will be zero tolerance on such issues,” he said.

The warning comes after an audio recording surfaced on Monday in which former tribunal prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder was allegedly heard demanding Tk1 crore in bribe.

In the recording, he is heard asking the family of former MP of Chittagong’s Raozan, Fazle Karim Chowdhury for the money, saying he could secure Chowdhury’s acquittal. The incident has since sparked widespread discussion and criticism.

According to various sources, the leaked audio is of recently resigned prosecutor Saimum Reza Talukder, in which he demanded the money from Rezwana Yusuf, the former wife of Fazle Karim Chowdhury.

Fazle Karim Chowdhury is currently in jail after being arrested in a case over the killing of Wasim, who was martyred during the July uprising.
