A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Hadi for the sixth time and fixed February 15 as the next date.

The date was fixed by the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam after the investigating officer—Assistant Superintendent of Police of CID Dhaka (East) Abdur Qadir Bhuiyan—failed to submit the report.

Earlier, on February 3, the probe report was deferred for the fifth time. On that day, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah had fixed Monday as the date for submission.

The information was confirmed by Prosecution Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman.

Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of the police submitted a charge sheet on January 6, naming 17 people as accused in the Hadi murder case. However, Inqilab Mancha expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet.

The case was scheduled for a hearing on January 12. On that day, Abdullah Al Jaber sought two days to review the charge sheet, which the court granted and fixed January 15 for accepting the charge sheet.

On January 15, expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet submitted by the DB, the complainant and member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, Abdullah Al Jaber, filed a naraji petition.

Following this, the court directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out further investigation in the case.

Hadi, who rose to prominence through the July uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, had announced his intention to contest the 13th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency.

On December 12 last year, Hadi was shot while conducting a public outreach campaign in the Bijoynagar area. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery and later transferred to Evercare Hospital in critical condition. Doctors described his condition as “extremely critical.”

On December 15, in the afternoon, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment. He passed away while undergoing treatment there on December 18.
