The High Court has issued rule asking why inaction and failures of BCB and other concerned parties should not be declared illegal in ensuring a safe, harassment-free, and gender-sensitive sports environment for women cricketers in the country.
The court has directed the BCB to immediately implement the anti-sexual harassment policy in light of the guidelines of the 2009 High Court verdict, even while the rule is under judicial consideration.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court bench, comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar, issued this order following the preliminary hearing of a writ petition.
Senior lawyer Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim appeared in court on behalf of the writ petition. He told reporters, “The High Court has issued an interim directive to the BCB. Implementing this order, the BCB has been asked to submit a report to the court within the next four weeks.”

In response to allegations of sexual harassment and mental abuse made by senior national women’s cricket team player Jahanara Alam, legal action has been initiated. Earlier, following Jahanara Alam’s complaint, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had formed an inquiry committee. However, despite the passage of a significant amount of time, the committee failed to submit any report.
Frustrated by the BCB’s prolonged inaction and delay, sports shooter Sabrina Sultana has filed a public interest petition in the High Court.
