Milon Hossain, the man arrested in connection with the killing of 16-year-old schoolgirl Fatema Akter Nili in South Banasree, Dhaka, has given confessional statement in court.

On Tuesday, SI Abdur Razzak (Raju) of Khilgaon Police Station, the investigation officer of the case, produced Milon before the court. Since the suspect voluntarily agreed to give a confessional statement, the officer requested it be recorded. Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain recorded the confession and ordered Milon sent to prison. SI Md Marufuzzaman of the prosecution department confirmed the development.

Nili’s body was discovered on Saturday afternoon at a residence in Block E of South Banasree’s “Pritom Villa.” She was a class 10 student at Radiant School and College. At the time of the incident, her parents and younger brother were in their ancestral home in Habiganj, while her elder sister, Shova Akter, had gone to the gym, leaving the house largely unattended. Shova found Nili lying on the kitchen floor with her throat slit upon returning home and immediately alerted the police.

Following the murder, Nili’s father, Md Sajib, filed a case on Saturday night against unknown persons. The FIR was submitted to court on Sunday and accepted by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Raju Ahmed, who directed that the investigation be completed and a report submitted by February 19.

According to the case details, the family runs a food outlet named Shahjalal Hotel in front of their residence, which Sajib and his son Shakil manage with the help of staff. Milon, the suspect, was employed at the hotel. On the day of the incident, Sajib had traveled to Habiganj with his wife and younger son for land-related work, leaving Shova and Nili at home. Shova went to the gym around 1:30pm and returned at approximately 3:30pm to find Nili murdered. Her screams drew nearby residents, who alerted the authorities. The body was recovered shortly afterward.

Sajib alleged that the murder was committed by one or more unknown persons due to “previous enmity.” Following the filing of the case, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Milon on Sunday.
