The High Court has issued a rule asking why all city corporations across the country, including Dhaka, should not be directed to formulate rules for determining house rents.
Authorities of Dhaka North and South city corporations, along with other concerned parties, have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
A High Court bench, headed by Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi, gave the order on Tuesday after the initial hearing of the writ petition. Advocate Parvez Hossain appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner.
Earlier, Imtiaz Uddin, a resident of Azimpur in Dhaka, filed the writ petition seeking directions to implement rules for determining house rents and to ensure the speedy execution of the 1991 House Rent Control Act. The petition also called for directions to limit security deposits to one month’s rent.
