A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of the income tax records of Lutful Tahmina Khan, wife of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order on Monday, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Bench Assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the development.
ACC Deputy Director and investigating officer Md Muhammad Joynal Abedin submitted the petition seeking seizure of her income tax documents.
According to the application, Lutful Tahmina Khan allegedly amassed and possessed illegal wealth amounting to Tk15.46 crore, an offence punishable under the ACC Act.
The petition also stated that former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan abetted the offence by abusing his position, which constitutes an offence under Section 109 of the Penal Code.
The ACC further alleged that Lutful Tahmina made suspicious transactions totalling Tk43.77 crore through accounts held in her name and in companies where she is a partial owner, across 10 banks.
These transactions, reportedly beyond her known sources of income, involve transferring and converting funds, which fall under offences outlined in Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.
The ACC argued that seizing and examining all her income tax returns and related documents is essential for a fair investigation.
