Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alisan Chowdhury have been granted bail after surrendering to the court in a case filed over allegations of threats and intimidation. The court has also scheduled December 18 for submitting replies related to the case.
On Sunday evening, Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court-3 Judge Afroza Haque Tania granted them bail.
The matter was confirmed by Mehazabien Chowdhury’s lawyer, Advocate Tuhin Hawlader.
After the bail hearing, Mehazabien’s lawyer told reporters, “The plaintiff’s claims do not match reality. He mentioned Hatirjheel as the incident location, but went to file the case at Vatara Police Station. When the police did not accept it, he directly filed the case in court.”
Earlier, on November 10, a Dhaka court issued arrest warrants against Mehazabien and her brother Alisan in this case.
November 10 had been set as the date for the accused to appear before the court, but they did not attend. As a result, the court issued arrest warrants.
According to the case statement, due to a long acquaintance with Amirul Islam, Mehazabien allegedly lured him by proposing to make him a partner in a new family business. Because of this, the plaintiff gave a total of Tk27 lakh in cash and through bKash over different occasions. Later, when Mehazabien and her brother did not take any steps to start the business, Amirul Islam repeatedly asked them to return his money, but the accused kept delaying.
On February 11 in the afternoon, he again went to demand his money. He was then asked to come to a restaurant beside Hatirjheel Road on March 16. When he went there that day, Mehazabien, her brother, and 4–5 unidentified individuals allegedly abused him verbally and said, “Don’t come to our house asking for money again. If we see you near the house again, we will kill you.”
When he went to Vatara Police Station to resolve the matter, the authorities advised him to file the case in court. Following this, Amirul Islam filed the case at Dhaka Executive Magistrate Court on March 24.
