A tribunal has sentenced a man to death for raping his stepdaughter in South Keraniganj four years ago.
Judge Munshi Md Moshier Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 delivered the verdict on Wednesday.
Additionally, Md Motahar was fined Tk1 lakh alongside the death sentence.
The Dhaka district magistrate has been instructed to recover the fine by selling the convict’s movable or immovable property and to hand over the proceeds to the survivor, said Public Prosecutor Ershad Alam George.
Motahar was presented in court before the verdict was announced.
Following the ruling, a warrant of execution was issued, and he was sent back to prison.
Motahar, the son of deceased Rifaz from Kurahar village in Shibganj, Bogra, lived in South Keraniganj with his wife and stepdaughter.
As they had no separate rooms, they all lived together in a single space.
Motahar would often make indecent advances toward the girl.
On the night of June 20, 2021, he raped her and threatened to kill her if she spoke about it.
He raped her again on the night of September 22.
The following day, she informed her mother, who, upon hearing this, along with her stepfather, forced her out of the house.
The survivor then went to her biological father.
On September 24, she filed a case at Keraniganj model police station.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Hasan investigated the case and submitted a charge sheet against Motahar on May 27, 2022.
Subsequently, charges were formally brought against Motahar, and the trial commenced.
During the proceedings, the court recorded the testimonies of eight witnesses.
