The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has formally charged ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina over crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising.

Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and ex-IGP Chowdhury Mamun are also named as co-accused.

The trial is being broadcast live on Bangladesh Television.

The charges, submitted on Sunday, hold Hasina responsible as the key instigator of the mass killings that took place across the country in July and August.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam and other prosecutors were present during the filing.

Earlier, on May 12, investigators submitted a report identifying Hasina as the one who ordered the killings.
