A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former member of parliament for the Habiganj-4 constituency, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, and his wife, Shammie Akhter, who is currently in custody over corruption allegations.
On behalf of the ACC, Deputy Director AKM Mahbubur Rahman filed the petition seeking the travel ban.
The petition said that an inquiry is underway against Suman over allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
During the investigation, credible sources revealed that Suman is attempting to flee the country and transfer both movable and immovable assets.
If he escapes abroad, the investigation may be hampered. Therefore, it is essential to impose a travel ban on him.
On the night of October 21, Suman was arrested from Mirpur-6 in Dhaka.
The following day, he was placed on a five-day remand. After the remand ended on October 28, he was sent to jail.
He was later arrested in several other cases and is currently in prison.
