A case has been filed in Bogra against three former chairmen and a former director general of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), accusing them of filing a politically motivated and false case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The complaint was lodged by Atikur Rahman, a resident of Chandpur village in Mokamtala, Shibganj upazila.
He submitted the case on Thursday at the Bogra Senior Judicial Magistrate (Sadar Amli) Court. Following a hearing, Judge Md Mehedi Hasan accepted the case and ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station to investigate and submit a report by July 10.
According to Advocate Abdul Ohab, the plaintiff’s legal counsel, the case names former ACC chairmen Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman, Abul Hasan Manzur, and former director general Ziauddin Ahmed as accused. Additionally, several unidentified individuals were also implicated.
The complaint alleges that the accused conspired to fabricate the Zia Orphanage Trust case with the intent to harass Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and others for political purposes. The plaintiff claims the case was orchestrated to serve the interests of the then ruling government and was filed based on false and fabricated narratives.
“This case was a clear abuse of state power, used to target political opponents,” said Advocate Ohab. “It was driven by vengeance and executed with unethical support from ACC officials. That is why legal action has been sought against them.”
The court has directed police to complete their investigation and submit findings within the next hearing date set for July 10.
