Actor Nusraat Faria, who was arrested in connection with an attempted murder case, has been granted bail.
The order was issued on Tuesday morning by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka.
According to her lawyer, Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain, Faria submitted a bail petition in court on Tuesday morning.
Following the hearing, the court approved the bail request.
During the hearing, Faria’s legal team told the court that she was not in the country at the time the incident occurred. Relevant documents supporting this claim were submitted to the court, which reviewed the materials before granting bail.
On Monday, the court had ordered that Faria be sent to jail.
On Sunday, police arrested Faria at the immigration checkpoint of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was en route to Thailand. She was later taken to the office of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for questioning.
Case documents state that during a mass uprising by students and citizens on July 19, Enamul Haque, 35, sustained gunshot wounds in the capital’s Vatara area. On May 3, he filed a complaint with the Dhaka CMM Court, naming 283 individuals.
Among the accused are 17 public figures, including Nusraat Faria.
Following a court directive, the complaint was officially recorded as a First Information Report (FIR) on the same day. Faria was arrested two weeks later.
