Popular folk singer and former Awami League MP Momtaz Begum has been sent to jail after completing a four-day remand in a murder case filed over the killing of hawker Md Sagor during the July movement in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman issued the order on Saturday following a remand hearing.
Prior to the hearing, Mirpur model police station Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam, the investigation officer in the case, submitted a petition requesting that Momtaz be kept in jail.
The defence sought bail and cancellation of the remand, but the court rejected the bail plea and ordered that she be sent to prison.
