Three accused sent to jail over DU student Shammo's murder

Shammo was stabbed on Tuesday while riding a motorcycle through Suhrawardy Udyan

A court has ordered the detention of three individuals arrested in connection with the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a leader of the Dhaka University (DU) unit of Chhatra Dal.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed issued the order after granting a petition that was submitted by the investigating officer on Wednesday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The accused sent to jail are: Md Tamim Hawlader, 30, son of Ershad Hawlader from Madaripur Sadar; Palash Sardar, 30, son of Kalam Sardar; and Samrat Mallick, 28, son of Jatindranath Mallick from Dasar police station.

They were arrested late Tuesday night from several areas in the capital, including Rajabazar.

According to case details, Shammo was stabbed around 11pm on Tuesday while riding a motorcycle through Suhrawardy Udyan.

His friends took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around midnight, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim’s elder brother, Shariful Islam, filed a case at Shahbagh police station on Wednesday morning, naming 10 to 12 individuals as the accused.
