Salman, ex-IGP Mamun sent to jail after remand

They were sent to jail in a case filed against them for the shooting of a man during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement

A Dhaka court on Saturday sent ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser, Salman F Rahman, and former IGP, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, to jail after their five-day remand in a case filed against them for the shooting death of a man named Jisan in Jatrabari's Matuail during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Police produced them before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court after the remand, and the investigation officer of the case, Jatrabari police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kawsar Hossain, applied for their detention in jail.

Following the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman ordered their detention.

Earlier, on January 20, the court had granted a five-day remand in the case.

According to the case statement, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on July 20, Jisan participated in the protest in Matuail under Jatrabari police station in the capital.

He was shot dead during that time.

A murder case was filed with Jatrabari police station regarding the incident.

On August 13 last year, based on secret information, police arrested Salman F Rahman from the Sadarghat area of the capital while he was attempting to flee by boat.

On the night of September 3 last year, law enforcement agencies arrested Abdullah Al Mamun from Uttara in the capital.
