A court on Wednesday ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts with Tk5.26 crore of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, accepting a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The anti-graft body in its plea said the ACC has already formed a team to probe allegations of money laundering against the former minister.

During its investigation, it learned that the accused may try to hand over his movable properties, saying for the sake of justice, his bank accounts should be frozen.

On October 7, 2024, a court imposed a travel ban on Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and his wife, Rukmila Zaman.

Another court ordered authorities to attach immovable properties owned by Saifuzzaman and his family on October 17.
