The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of a plea challenging the High Court verdict that annulled the process to recruit 6,531 candidates as assistant teachers at government primary schools in the Dhaka and Chittagong divisions.
The hearing was scheduled for Sunday, as Appellate Division Judge-in-Chamber Justice Md Rezaul Haque had set the date on February 18.
However, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman requested to adjourn the hearing until Monday due to personal difficulties.
A three-member apex court bench, headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, agreed and adjourned the hearing until Monday.
On February 18, Justice Md Rezaul Haque forwarded the matter to the full bench of the Appellate Division for further hearing after conducting a preliminary review of the civil petition filed by the director general of the Directorate of Primary Education.
Earlier, a High Court division bench, comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi, pronounced a judgment on February 6.
The High Court directed the authorities to follow the Appellate Division's latest verdict on the quota system and to publish the recruitment results afresh.
The High Court’s verdict came after thirty candidates filed a writ petition challenging the decision to publish lists of successful candidates, alleging that the authorities had applied a quota system in the recruitment process for candidates from Dhaka and Chittagong divisions in the third phase.
After hearing the matter, the High Court issued a rule and stayed the recruitment process for six months.
