Arrested Shahidul again remanded in bus robbery and harassment case on Dhaka-Tangail Highway

So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the bus robbery

A court has ordered another four-day remand for Shahidul Islam, alias Mahidul Muhit, who was arrested in connection with a robbery and harassment incident on a moving bus on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.

On Wednesday, after completing a five-day remand, the police presented Shahidul before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Mirzapur, Tangail.

The police requested an additional five-day remand for further interrogation.

After the hearing, Judge Mosammat Rumi Khatun approved a four-day remand.

Shahidul was arrested along with two others, Md Sabuj and Sharifuzzaman, on Friday from the Genda area of Savar, Dhaka. 

The next day, Shahidul was taken into a five-day remand by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police. The other two suspects confessed to their involvement in court on the same day.

The investigating officer, DB Police (North) Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Ahsanuzzaman, said that during the first five-day remand, Shahidul admitted to his involvement in the incident and provided crucial information about the robbery gang.

“On Tuesday, he was confronted with another suspect, Alamgir Sheikh, for further questioning. Since additional interrogations and operations are necessary, we sought a second remand,” he added.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, the main mastermind, Alamgir Sheikh, and his brother and accomplice, Rajib Sheikh, were arrested.

They were later presented in court, where Judge Mosammat Rumi Khatun granted six days of remand for Alamgir and five days for Rajib.

So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the bus robbery.

On the night of February 17, a group of robbers attacked a Rajshahi-bound Unique Road Royals bus (Mymensingh-B-11-0061) on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway after departing from Gabtoli.

The assailants looted valuables from passengers and harassed female passengers.

Following the incident, on February 21, bus passenger Omar Ali filed a case against 8 to 9 unidentified individuals at the Mirzapur Police Station in Tangail.

So far, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
